Why the AI runs on a machine in your office
Client files are the most sensitive thing an accounting firm holds. So they stay in the firm.
Accountants hold their clients' bank statements, payslips, contracts and tax files. When we asked firms what worried them about AI, the answer was rarely "is it clever enough". It was "where does our clients' data go".
Our answer is architectural, not a promise: Bertha runs on a machine in your office.
- The models run on that machine. There is no outside AI service behind it, and no subscription to someone else's model that can change its terms.
- Every outgoing request is counted. Bertha keeps a ledger of every connection the software makes. In the product you can see that number, and for client work it is zero.
- It can be closed off entirely. In its strictest mode, external hosts are refused outright.
- Every action is logged. Who asked what, what Bertha read, what changed, and who approved it, in a log you can read.
We install the machine in your network like any other server, maintain it and keep it up to date. If you stop, the machine comes back to us and your data stays with you, in open formats.
We are careful about how we say this. We do not put a "compliant" badge on the website: your firm is responsible for its clients' data, and we give you the processing agreement and the documents to show how Bertha handles it. What we can say plainly is where the data is. It is in your office.
