Private AI for Europe's accounting firms

For investors: what we build, the market, why now and how we earn.

Leyoda builds Bertha, a private AI system for accounting and bookkeeping firms. It runs on a machine installed in each firm's own office, prepares the routine work (VAT returns, missing documents, bank matching, meeting notes) and asks a person to approve every step. Client data never leaves the building. Firms pay one monthly rate, which covers the machine and our support.

The market

  • 632,961accounting, bookkeeping, audit and tax firms in the EU
  • 205,916of them with 2 to 49 people, the firms Bertha is built for
  • 138,226firms in the EU countries we serve today: Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark and Sweden

Source: Eurostat, enterprises by size class, NACE Rev. 2 activity M69.2, 2024 (dataset sbs_sc_ovw). The United Kingdom, which we also serve, is not included.

Why now

  • E-invoicing becomes mandatory

Belgium from January 2026; Germany receiving since 2025 and issuing from 2027; France from September 2026; EU-wide digital reporting by 2030. Every client invoice arrives as data a system can read and check.

  • The EU AI Act applies

Its transparency obligations apply from August 2026. Firms must be able to show which system did what, on which data, and who approved it.

  • The profession sets the bar

In June 2026 the Dutch bodies NBA and NOREA published guidance saying AI must never be a black box, and that validation and human judgement remain the basis of public trust.

  • Firms are changing software anyway

AdminPulse, used by many Dutch and Belgian firms, is ending. Firms choosing what to move to are choosing how their routine work will be done.

Why firms choose it

  • Confidentiality by design. Accountants are bound by professional secrecy; Bertha processes client data in the office, with no outside AI service.
  • A person approves every step. Every action is recorded with a name and a time, and every figure traces back to its document, which is what the AI Act and the profession ask for.
  • It works with what firms already use. No migration of the books; the firm's bookkeeping, banking and tax software stay as they are.
  • Hours back, counted. Each action counts its documented minutes, so a firm can check the time saved instead of taking it on trust.
